DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, October 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Texas Financial Educators Council announced today that they have named Craig McKinnis, author of the book *Get Good at Money: A Beginner’s Guide to Investing*, to a seat on their expert Advisory Board.— Vince Shorb, CEO, National Financial Educators Council
McKinnis brings a rich background in financial services and education to the position, having spent several years in top-level operations and compliance positions in the banking, mortgage, and automotive finance industries. His credentials include a BS in Economics from Illinois State University and certification in Consumer Credit Compliance from the NAF. His professional experience includes positions with Saxon Mortgage, Exeter Finance, Citi, and Wells Fargo, where he is currently a VP – Data Analyst Consultant.
Craig also has a strong history of financial wellness advocacy. He authored his book with a goal of helping beginning investors surmount the anxiety and intimidation they often face when contemplating entering the market. He emphasizes systems, consistency, and practical action rather than overloading readers with information. McKinnis holds the philosophy that people build wealth not through knowledge, but through execution.
Craig built his financial education brand, Get Good at Money, based on the principles of his book – to make the fundamentals of money management and investing more understandable for beginners and working adults so they can avoid feeling confused and intimidated. The organization focuses on plain language education, behavior change, practical next steps, and developing a long-term mindset. The accompanying media platform, Money Ministry, offers the same ideas in podcast format to reach a broader audience with confidence-building knowledge that leads from awareness to action.
Craig’s objectives for joining the Advisory Board include supporting outreach and education designed to help more Texans develop practical financial capability. His priority initiatives include college and university programs, community workshops, financial literacy discussions, media education, and collaboration with groups that serve beginning and first-generation investors.
“Community organizations are trusted bridges to the people who need financial education most,” McKinnis commented when asked about his plans for participating on the board. “Giving those groups effective tools and support can turn financial literacy into practical, lasting capability.”
He added, “Access matters. When schools, nonprofits, and community groups have quality financial education resources, more people can gain the knowledge and confidence to take meaningful financial action.”
The TFEC is anticipating a long-term and productive partnership with Craig McKinnis as they pursue their shared goals moving forward.
"Craig McKinnis brings the perspective of someone who understands both institutional financial systems and the barriers everyday people face when they are trying to begin building wealth,” said Vince Shorb, CEO of the National Financial Educators Council. “His experience across banking, mortgage, compliance, and investor education will help the TFEC advance education that is clear, trustworthy, and useful for Texans at different stages of their financial lives.
