Israeli Forces Kill 7-Month-Old Palestinian Infant in West Bank

(MENAFN) A 7-month-old Palestinian infant was shot and killed Friday after Israeli army soldiers opened fire on a family's vehicle in the Tel Rumeida area of the southern occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed.

The ministry identified the slain child as Sam Abu Haikal. His father, Fahd Abdul Aziz Abu Haikal — a lecturer at Bethlehem University — and his mother were both wounded in the attack. The family, who resided in Bethlehem, was travelling to the paternal grandmother's home in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of central Hebron when soldiers fired live ammunition at their car.

A single bullet struck the father in the hand, passed through his wife, and ultimately pierced the jaw of their infant son. All three were rushed to hospital, where Sam was pronounced dead.

The killing comes against a backdrop of dramatically intensifying Israeli military activity across the occupied West Bank since the outbreak of Israel's war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023 — a period marked by escalating military raids, mass arrests, and accelerated settlement expansion throughout the territory.
