Israel’s Security Cabinet Greenlights New West Bank Settlements in Secret
While the exact date of the decision was not specified, it was said to have been made during the US-Israeli military operations against Iran that began on February 28.
“The Security Cabinet secretly approved the construction of 34 new settlements in the West Bank, a record number passed in a single move during the campaign against Iran,” reports stated.
The newly approved locations reportedly include areas within Palestinian neighborhoods in the northern West Bank, as well as remote regions rarely accessed by Israeli forces. “This is the largest number of settlements ever approved in a single cabinet session,” the reports added.
Sources indicate that the total number of illegal settlements approved under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government since late 2022 has reached 103.
The reports also noted that Israel’s Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, attended the session.
While he did not formally oppose the decision, he raised concerns about limited military personnel and requested an assessment regarding the feasibility of implementing the plan across multiple sites simultaneously.
